Dr. Heather Short
Tell me about your background (pets, family, education, etc).
I graduated from Michigan State University College of Veterinary Medicine in 1996 and have been in small animal medicine since then. I did my undergraduate at MSU as well. My love for animals started when I was around 8 years old and has gotten stronger ever since. It is my true passion.
I grew up with dogs but now own cats due to my busy schedule. Cats are more independent and easier to care for. I have 2 indoor cats currently; April is a 14 year old Domestic Short Hair. Mittens, also a Domestic Short Hair, is the new arrival and was born in 7/2013. Both cats bring great joy and lots of laughs!
I have 2 children. My daughter is a college graduate and lives out-of-state and my son is in middle school.
Do you have any hobbies?
My hobbies include scrapbooking photos of family, friend, and of course animals. I love to take pictures, watch movies, drive to various places like Chicago and Traverse City, bowling, bike riding, swimming, attending local fairs, and spending time with my two children and my 2 cats.
What do you like about working at Pet Vet?
My long term plans are to continue as a Small Animal Veterinarian while creating new relationships with people and their pets. I really enjoy preventative medicine, wellness exams, working with clients to help increase the quality of life for pets with chronic diseases, treating skin diseases, and working with all pets.
